Stem Cells For Neurodegenerative Diseases

Sunday, June 22nd, 2014

In this video,  Bernd Evert talks about how using induced pluripotent stem cells is one of the greatest advancements towards delaying  the onset of devastating neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, ALS, Parkinson’s and Huntington’s.

Induced pluripotent stem cells (often referred to as iPS or IPSCs) are generated directly from adult stem cells.  They are reprogrammed back to a pluripotent stem cell and therefore have differentiating properties of an early stage stem cell. Induced pluripotent stem cells are NOT embryonic stem cells and do not require the destruction of an embryo.
